Hi, I'm Leo Yockey. My pronouns are he/him/his (y él en español).
As a Black transgender man and a mixed-race, first-generation American, I feel uniquely qualified to relate to people from many different backgrounds.
I love talking to people about their unique life paths and how they came to make the choices they did in their lives. This led me to starting my podcast, The Leo Yockey Show, in 2021. The show quickly evolved into a place to talk with a mostly-queer guest list about how our identities shape our relationship to the world. Since the show's hiatus, I have focused most of this energy into writing personal essays.
Professionally, I used to be a Security Officer at a prominent hotel and casino in Las Vegas. From there, I managed to work my way into the I.T. Department, learn how to code, and start a career as a Software Engineer. I am currently a Senior Software Engineer at a leading mental health startup. The work that I do in turn helps mental health practitioners do the work that they do, and I love it.
When I'm not working or writing, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our dog and cat. I also like to read, play video games, and get lost on long urban walks. Estoy aprendiendo español.
